Description

Try this Thai Green Tea (ชาเขียว) drink for a taste of Thailand in your own home! It combines Thai tea mix with matcha powder and sweetened condensed milk for a delicious blend of flavors. This refreshing drink is perfect for hot summer days or when you want something special to satisfy your cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon matcha powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup Thai tea mix
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon evaporated milk. half and half or coffee creamer works too.

Instructions

French press method

  • Add sugar, condensed milk, match powder, and salt, and whisk until smooth in a heat-safe mixing bowl or heat-resistance drinking pitcher. The creamy green color is so satisfying to watch!
  • Steep the green tea. Bring water to a boil in a pot. In a French press, add the tea mix, pour 3 cups of water over the Number One Thai tea mix, and steep for 4-6 minutes or up to 10 minutes if you love a strong brew.  Plunge the French press, and pour the green tea into a tea sock, cheesecloth, or muslin bag, into the sugar mixture bowl to filter out loose tea leaves.
  • Pour the strained tea water into a bowl with condensed milk, sugar, matcha, and salt and whisk well until the tea is smooth and the sugar dissolve. You'll have an inviting green tea staring back at you! (: Take a little sip to sample the flavor and adjust with more flavors as needed!
  • Allow the coffee mixture to cool slightly before serving. Cool to room temperature if you have time. To serve, fill tall glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled coffee mixture over the ice. Top the glasses of Thai tea with evaporated milk for added creaminess. Done!

Stovetop method

  1. Everything is the same except in step 2, where you fill a medium size stock pot with water and bring it to a gentle boil. Turn the heat off, then add 3 cups of hot water to a tea mix in a separate bowl. Stir the tea mix in the water and steep for 4-6 minutes. Strain the tea over a tea sock or cheesecloth to remove the tea mixes.
  2. Follow Steps 3-4 in the French press section above!
  3. Stir the coffee well with the condensed milk mixture. That's it! Enjoy your Thai coffee!

Garnishing options: You can garnish your latte with a sprinkle of matcha powder on top, ground cinnamon, star anise pod, or a drizzle of brown sugar syrup.

Notes

  • Add 1/2-1 teaspoon of Moringa powder for a natural vibrant green color to achieve the ideal color. Moringa is a natural superfood made from the Moringa tree, full of health benefits!
  • For less caffeine, use reduce the amount of Thai green tea mixture and matcha powder.
  • If you're a fan of bubble tea, add tapioca pearls for a unique twist.
  • Adjust the sweetness level by adding more or less sweetened milk and sugar.
  • For added flavors, add a few drops of jasmine, pandan, or vanilla extract for a boost of fragrance and flavors.
