Description

Prepare to surprise your taste buds with flavors that dance between sweet and spicy. This Pineapple Habanero Salsa (with a secret ingredient!) is a tropical twist on the classic salsa, bringing together the juicy goodness of fresh pineapple and the fiery kick of habanero peppers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups fresh pineapple, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 2-4 habanero chile peppers, seeds removed. Use kitchen gloves to handle these.
  • 1/4 cup sweet white onion, chopped into small pieces. Red onion works as a substitute
  • 1/4 bell peppers, chopped into small pieces
  • 1 Roma tomatoes chopped into small pieces. (1/2 cup) Use any tomatoes available about
  • 1 oz shallot, chopped into small pieces
  • 1 large stem green onion, slice into 2-inch pieces
  • 1/3 cup fresh cilantro, chopped small. A must for this recipe for the extra fresh taste.
  • 3 cloves garlic chopped small
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice. Lemon juice will work as a substitute.
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon fish sauce. **The secret ingredient**
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep the Pineapple: Peel, core, and dice the fresh pineapple into small, juicy chunks. Place leftover pineapple in a large bowl for other pineapple recipes. Learn how to cut a pineapple using this helpful blog post.
  2. Chop and Blend: Add everything to a food processor and blitz until you are happy with the consistency of the salsa. Have it chunky or smooth style, you choose!
  3. Adjust and Season to Perfection: Season the salsa with more fish sauce, peppers, or cumin to taste. Remember, you can always adjust the heat by controlling the amount of habanero peppers you use. Serve fresh with your favorite chips or pita bread or as a sauce for your tacos or salads.  That's it!
  4. Top your Pineapple Habanero Salsa with additional diced pineapple slices, a sprinkle of fresh cilantro leaves, or even a lime zest for extra flavor.

Notes

  • Remove the seeds and ribs from the habanero peppers before mincing for a less spicy salsa.
  • Leave a few habanero seeds in your salsa for a spicier salsa. You'll feel the heat of it!
  • Handling hot peppers? Wear gloves to avoid any accidental contact with sensitive skin or eyes.
  • Make a chunky salsa if you prefer more texture. Use less time to bleed the ingredients in the food processor. I love biting into a chunky juicy pineapple piece with salty tortilla chips.
  • Double batch the recipe if you make a large portion for a large gathering. Check the recipe card below for the exact measurements.
  • Chill the salsa. Let the flavors meld by allowing the salsa to chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before serving. This step is optional.
